For the Multi-Passionate Person in the Middle of a Hard Decision

I'm Alicia!

I majored in Journalism but I write like I think. There might be typos, I guarantee some sarcasm but most importantly, I hope the content resonates with you.

On changing your mind, listening for what is true now, and choosing what comes next.

Hard decisions rarely arrive because one option is obviously wrong.

Sometimes both directions hold something you care about. Both could work. Both would cost you something.

That is the tension of being multi-passionate. Possibility and opportunity? Not the problem. You can imagine more than one future because more than one future could be real.

Then you have to choose.

When I find myself in that kind of decision, I return to the same places. Therapy. Time alone. Walking. Writing down my truth. Lifting weights. My spiritual practice. Paying attention to my body. Trusting people who will give me honest, direct feedback. Surrender.

These are the places where the noise gets soft enough for the truth to become specific.

I can think a decision into the ground. I can research it, imagine every outcome, and keep circling long after the useful thinking is done. A busy brain is very good at producing one more question, one more option…

Eventually, more analysis only creates more paralysis.

That is when I walk. I write. I lift something heavy. I stop demanding an immediate answer and pay attention to what keeps returning. I study myself and the situation.

My body belongs in that conversation too. My mind can build an argument for almost anything. My body often registers what my mind is still trying to organize. A physical response does not make the decision, but it adds information worth considering alongside the facts.

Honest counsel matters. It’s become one of my favorite things. I trust the people who ask direct and specific questions, point out the part of the math I may be avoiding, and still leave the decision in my hands.

Then comes the hardest part: letting go. Surrendering.

Sometimes you are releasing a plan, an identity, or a future you had already pictured. Even the right move can carry grief. Relief and sadness can exist at the same time. Certainty can arrive before your emotions catch up with what it changes.

The version of you who made the earlier decision deserves respect. She chose with what she knew then. The version of you standing here now carries new information.

She gets to choose with that.

A previous yes was sincere. A later no can be honest, yet so hard, too. Both can belong to the same life.

This new season of Alicia Schumacher Co. came from that kind of decision.

A few weeks ago, I chose to step away from Bold Identity Studio, a business I co-founded. I am so incredibly proud of what we built and endlessly grateful for the people we served.

I also knew it was time to choose what came next.

Alicia Schumacher Co. is now where twenty years of marketing, sales, leadership, and business come together. The business I started to build two years ago looks a bit different, but has the same roots.

Marketing Leader & Operator | Speaker & Educator

The work includes one-on-one problem solving through Your Next Move, ongoing marketing leadership for people and founder-led businesses, speaking engagments, and education for busy-brained people.

If you are in the middle of a hard decision, give it enough space and softness to become yours. Write down your truth. Notice what your body contributes. Invite honest feedback. Name the tradeoffs without trying to make them disappear.

Then choose with what you know now.

It’s okay to change your mind.

This is my next move.
